Gas meters measure consumption in either cubic feet or cubic meters. The measurement used on your meter will determine how many digits you have to report each week.

Most electricity meters will have a numeric display which is easy to read. Similar to the cubic meter gas reading, report the first five numbers and do not include the red digits.

Dial meters are slightly more complicated as each dial moves in opposite directions. For example the image below should be read as 38382 kWh (kilowatt hours).
